Maternity Clothes

This past Thursday, I finally decided it was time to go shopping for maternity clothes. You can only do the rubber band trick for so long. My Dad & Mom give each of us $$ for our first maternity clothes. Thankfully, they were able to go with me to Rivertown mall Thursday night to do some shopping. We found great deals at JC Penny and I got a couple things at Motherhood Maternity. Hopefully, I will have enough to get through the rest of the summer months. I have been very thankfully it hasn't been a very hot summer. THANKS, Dad & Mom for the wonderful gift! I am MUCH more comfortable!!!!

2nd Doctor's Appointment

This afternoon I had my second doctor's appointment. GOOD NEWS.....I heard two heart beats and everything is going well. Both heart beats are around 145. Thankfully my blood pressure is good and no trouble signs in my urine! Nurse Cathy and Dr. Siegers are wonderful! Everyone is so positive and very helpful. Dr. Siegers just told me a few things to be prepared for. Our goal is to reach 34 weeks and anything beyond that would be AWESOME! There is a chance I could go on bed rest at 28 weeks but that is only if my blood pressure is high and there seems to be complications. My goal is to work till my water breaks. There is also a chance I will have to have a c-section. I am a bit nervous about that, but I will do whatever is best for the babies. I have gained 4 pounds and Cathy was super excited about that. My next appointment will be August 18 and that is when we will have our second ultra sound. I will have an ultra sound once a month. It will be fun to see the twins grow through the ultra sounds. Thanks for your prayers!!!

13 Weeks

This past Tuesday marked our 13th week into our pregnancy! We are hoping and praying the twins are doing great and growing strong and healthy.
This afternoon we had excellent lunch by Mom & Dad Van Dam. I love it when I don't have to cook Sunday dinner! After dessert we got our first gift from them for the twins. What a wonderful surprise! Our gift included baby paper and 3-d stickers for their creative memory books, two cups, two plates, two swaddlers, two teething rings, and an Baby Einstein CD. It is so fun to get gifts for the twins already. There is no doubt in my mind they will be super spoiled.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July! The Van Dam Family is currently in Leamington, Ontario. I am sure you are thinking, what an interesting way to celebrate the United State's Independence....

This is our 2nd time to Leamington over the Fourth of July holiday. We all arrived Wednesday night and we leave Sunday, July 5. Scot and I & Wayne & Jill are staying in a hotel and the Gruppen family is down the road at a campground.

So far, the weather has been so-so. Thursday it was jeans and sweatshirt weather. We ran to Wal-Mart in the morning to get a few more items and then hung around the campground for the majority of the day. The boys had a good time riding their bikes, playing tether ball, and playing catch. Thursday night we made Pizza Hobo Pies over the fire, my favorite!! Friday the weather was a bit warmer but still windy. Scot, Dad, Eric, & Tristan all got up at 6:00 AM to go fishing. The water was a bit rough they said & they only caught bass. Tristan & I rode our bikes for 4 miles that day around the campground.

This morning the boys went fishing again at 6:00 AM. The weather is starting to look up and the sun is shinning. Heidi, Braden, Jayce, Mom, and myself found a beach and were able to relax while the boys played in the sand. When the boys got back from fishing we had lunch and then planned on all going back out on the lake for more fishing. Scot and I were going to take the smaller boat and when we got to the unloading dock Scot found out that the boat was dead. So Scot and took the boat back to the hotel to charge and the rest of the crew went out to fish. Scot and I went back to the campground to get our bikes and we rode our bikes back to the marina and checked out the craftshow. On the way back we got ice cream. We ended our afternoon with chilling at the campground. I was able to read my book and Scot took a nap.
For dinner Saturday night we had fresh walleye that was caught by the boys that morning. And of course, for dessert we had smores!
Tomorrow we have to head back home and go back to reality.

Babies First Gifts

Tuesday, June 30 when I got back from lunch there were two matching brown teddy bears sitting on my chair. There are so soft and so sticken cute! Mary Davis, a co-worker of mine gave the twins their first stuff animals. It was a reminder to me that I am having Twins.......
I also received a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the Dave Hildenbrand's family. Dave and I have worked together for the past three years. It was a wonderful surprise for me in the afternoon. The babies have also received clothes from my Grandma De Vree. She bought us a huge bag of clothes that are for boys, girls, and some that are neutral.
I have no doubt these babies will be very spoiled!!! Scot and I are so blessed to have wonderful family and friends to support us during this exciting time in our life.

Surprise.....We are expecting!!!!

Monday, June 29, we had a doctor's appointment at 11:00 in Holland to hear the heartbeat. I was so excited for this visit. I could not wait to hear the heartbeat and know that everything was okay with our baby. We got to the doctor's office to find out that he was running 30 minutes late. This of course did not make Scot nor I real happy due to the fact we were both away from work. We finally got in and spoke to Nurse Kathy first. She went over my blood work which everything looked great. Kathy is the one who helped us find the heartbeat. She told me to pull my pants down a ways b/c usually the uterus is way below your belly button. Then she said, you are actually measuring bigger than what you should be for 3 months. I asked what is that suppose to mean. She explained it could mean three things:
1. You are further along than we think.
2. That is the way your body is, or
3. You are having twins!!!!

Scot and I looked at each other and thought no way! My sister, Sarah and Scot's Dad both told us we were having twins before our appointment so it has been kind of the joke in our families.

Kathy explained that the only to find out for sure is to do an ultra sound. She move the "wand" around my belly and found a heart beat on my right hand side. The heart beat was around 163. Then she kept moving the "wand" and stopped on my left side. She gave me this weird look, and I said to her, you found another heart beat, didn't you??? She then again told me, we will not know if there are twins until we do an ultrasound. Kathy then left to find out with the ultra sound tech if we could fit in her schedule. I asked Kathy to really push for today, I could not wait to find out.

Then my doctor came in and did a routine physical. He stated as well that my uterus was measuring bigger than it should be.

As I was getting dressed, Kathy knocked on the door and told me that Lori, the ultra sound tech could get me in right now. We got Scot from the waiting room and headed down to the ultra sound room. My mind was just racing!!!!

I laid down and I could not see the screen that Lori and Scot could see. She put some of the jelly on my belly and it was very warm. She started moving the bigger "wand" around and the next thing I remember is Scot stating, Sure enough. I asked him, what do you mean, sure enough??? Lori starts rubbing my arm and said, sweetie you are having TWINS!!!! I could not believe it and was in so much shock!!! Lori than turned on the TV screen to my left and sure enough there were two babies as plain as day. Scot had the biggest smile on his face. I will never forget this day and how Scot and I felt with the wonderful news we received!!!

After leaving the doctor's office, I called my family to tell them the news and Scot called his family. I called my sister Sarah first. The first thing she said to me was not hello but "So, how many heartbeats? I told her two and she did not believe me for the longest time. Then I called my Dad on his cell and told him we had to go shopping for another crib. Of course, he did not believe me either. I think when he finally believed me, he was getting emotional b/c I could hear it in his voice. I then called my mom and told her the same thing I told my Dad and she did not believe me either.

Scot and I both went back to work, knowing we were not going to be able to concentrate. I ended up telling everyone at work that not only was I expecting, but I was expecting TWINS!!!

After talking to several people at work, I as able to leave at 2:00. Scot called me on my way to Holly's house and said he is leaving work as well b/c he can not concentrate and we need to tell his grandparents.

We spent the next few hours stopping by family and friends telling them our news and then telling them our bigger news, WE ARE HAVING TWINS!!!!!

Happy Birthday Mom - Happy Father's Day Dad!!!!

Sunday, June 21 we celebrated my Mom's birthday and Father's day by the pool. My mom's birthday is June 20. We had a nice cookout and enjoyed the nice weather. We got my mom a gift card to a bead store in Frankenmuth and we got my dad a 2-wheel cart.

Night with Friends - Saturday, June 20

As you can tell by the date in the title, I am a bit behind on blogging.....

Saturday, June 20 we had our good friends over, Andrea & Steve and Marcy & Eric. We treated ourselves to a feast. We had fillet Mignon and crab legs for main course. Cheesy potatoes, fruit salad, garlic bread, strawberry salad, cheese & crackers was our sides. And for dessert Mint Chocolate Cheesecake and apple pie. We ate like King and Queens for the night. No one left hungry, in fact I think most of us had to roll out of our chairs. We had a great time catching up with one another. It is amazing how fast and busy the summer months get for everyone.
